For language teachers
Need a place for student speaking assignments after Flip?
The standalone Flip (formerly Flipgrid) apps retired in 2024. If you used them to ask students to speak in response to a prompt, TryHabla offers a focused assignment workflow: share a link, collect recordings, listen, grade, and respond.
What a class can do
Keep the speaking task simple
- Write a prompt. Ask students to explain, describe, narrate, or make a case in the target language.
- Share one link. Students sign in and record in a browser, then listen before they submit.
- Review privately. Hear each response, score with your rubric or point value, and leave teacher feedback.
- Return to the work. Keep submissions with the student's speaking history and export grades as CSV.
The core audio classroom is free. AI transcription and rubric assistance are optional; manual grading does not require AI. TryHabla is designed for teacher-reviewed assignments, not a student-to-student video discussion feed. Video submissions are available only where enabled for the class; check your classroom setup before planning a video activity.
A first assignment to try
Ask for one minute of real speech
“Tell a new student about a place you like in your community. Explain where it is, what you do there, and why you recommend it.” Students can plan their answer, record it, and listen once before submitting. You can score how clearly they communicate, how much detail they give, and how they use the language you have taught.
TryHabla collects these responses for the teacher to review. If your old Flip activity depended on students watching and replying to one another, this is a different classroom format and may not replace that part of the lesson.
